Food flights, not generic lists

Fly for the meal worth planning the whole trip around.

Fifty food-first cities and regions with gourmet guide links, World 50 Best signals, Michelin coverage where it actually exists, best-new-restaurant sources, food festivals, flights, stays, Expedia car rentals and proper local tours.

Trip starter

Pick the food signal, then book around the table.

Use Expedia or Trip.com for flights, Booking.com for stays, Expedia for car rentals and GetYourGuide for guides or food tours, then confirm the actual dining target through the gourmet source listed on each card.

Food on flights

Business and first class food matters, but route first.

The main site stays focused on destinations, stays, cars, tours and restaurant intelligence. This section flags the useful flight-food angle: long-haul business or first class can be part of the food trip, especially when the airline serves proper regional menus, pre-order meals, dine-on-demand or strong lounge dining.

The 50-place shortlist

Food cities and regions worth flying for

Each card combines global restaurant recognition, local gourmet guide strength, festival timing and practical flight planning. Michelin is included only where coverage exists or is useful.

Food festival flights

Festival windows that can justify the airfare

Use official festival pages for current dates and tickets, then build flights and accommodation around refundable plans.

0 festivals

Remote restaurant flights

Worth a detour, sometimes worth the trip

These are restaurant and producer-led places where the journey is part of the point: wine country, farms, coastlines, wagyu, seafood, fire cooking and destination tasting menus.

Best new restaurants

Where to watch for new tables

For the USA, the strongest current signals are usually city Eater heatmaps, Infatuation openings, Bon Appetit Best New Restaurants, Food & Wine, and James Beard semifinalists. For Australia, use Good Food, Broadsheet, AGFG and state food media before using international guides.

Source logic

Why the guide links are not generic

Michelin is a useful signal in Tokyo, Paris, London, New York, Singapore, Bangkok and other covered regions. It is not a sensible primary signal for Australia or New Zealand, so those cards use Good Food Guide, Broadsheet, Cuisine Good Food Awards, AGFG, Metro and similar city-level food media instead.

Flights Food is based on Dr John Walker's travel and food experience, selected personal travel photos, and cited restaurant, festival and travel sources. It is built as a practical trip-planning page for people who choose the table before the airfare.

The destination card images are AI-assisted original illustrations. They are intentionally food-and-city cues, not documentary photos of a specific restaurant, dish, view or booking. AI also helped assemble and format the site, so official publishers and venues should still be checked before booking.
